Alam Group of Companies has been in existence for over half a century and is primarily involved in the manufacturing, building and construction industry. The Company was founded by Mr.Manzur Alam who is the Chairman of the Group. In 1965, Uganda Steel Windows Ltd was established under the Alam Group umbrella. The company was responsible for manufacturing metal doors, windows, louvers, shop front, slotted angles, hacksaw blades, wire ropes, welding rods, fencing, steel trunks, BRC and all kinds of furniture and steel pipes. The name Uganda Steel Windows Ltd was later changed to Casements (A) Ltd in 1967. Over Six (6) other companies associated with the building industry were established thereafter including;
1. Steel Rolling Mills Ltd (Steel Bars),
2. Roofclad Ltd (Wire Products),
3. Oxygas Ltd (Industrial Gas),
4. Alam Properties (Residentials,Warehouses & Commercial Properties for letting)
5. Lake Wamala Farm Ltd,
6. Crocodile Tool Company-Formerly Chillington Company (Hoes),
7. Saimmco Ltd (Farming Ploughs)
8. Ekono Homes Ltd (Prefabricated wooden Houses),
9. Geo Lodges Africa (Tourist Accommodation & lodging)
10. AMA Ply Ltd (Timber/Furniture) and
The Group continues to constantly grow and diversify its portfolio and more recently new subsidiaries have been established including;
1. Kenya United Steel Company (KUSCO) that produces steel bars and wire products and;
2. Rhino Footwear that makes Gumboots.
Alam Group remains one of the largest manufacturing concerns in Uganda and in the East African region.
