Established in 1987, SRML is equipped with some of the finest technological innovations in the manufacturing of steel products. The company has grown from strength to strength; starting with a manual 12 inch rolling mill using imported billets from Europe, Russia and Zimbabwe producing 1560 Metric tonnes of finished product.

In 1990 the importation of billets was later greatly reduced following the successful installation and commissioning of a state of the art Electric Arc Furnace with a capacity of 18 Metric tonnes of molten steel.This was followed by the addition of an 8 inch mill for making window and door sections and steel bars of small sizes such as 6mm & 8mm in the early 1990’s.

In late 2002, the company installed and successfully commissioned two twin 8-tons induction furnaces to produce over 150 tonnes of steel per day. This was followed in July 2005, by the commissioning of a modern Billet Casting machine of 4/7 meter radius to cast high quality steel billets which in turn gives high yield finished steel bars for use in the construction industry. This is the first of its kind in the country.
The coming the billet casting machine [BCM] has adversely improved the production output in all the rolling mill departments by over 30%. It has also saved the company on all the other production consumables and losses associated with the traditional casting practices of using ingot moulds by over 25%.

Steel rolling mills ltd located at Masese on the outskirts of East of Jinja town, 5km along Jinja- Tororo Highway, has its headquarters situated on 5th street industrial area-Kampala.

Since its launching, steel Rolling mills has grown by leaps and bounds to the present level of meeting the country’s demand for high tensile steel profiles and sections.

The company provides employment to over 650 Ugandans with a hand full of expatriates giving training to the local staff.

Presently SRML is producing 30,000 metric tonnes of steel annually on an average but has the capacity to produce over 50,000 Metric tonnes annually. The high volume of production has enabled the company to offer competitive prices on all its products.

The range of hot rolled profiles varies in type, weight, shape, size and strength. Reinforcement iron bars are manufactured in shapes of round, square plain and twisted and ribbed bars [Tor Steel] in sizes ranging from 8mm to 32 mm. Window and door sections are made as ‘Z’ and ‘T’ sections, Angles and flat bars.
Steel rolling mills ltd also produces special high carbon steel for its sister company-Crocodile Tool Company ltd for the manufacture of Hoes. Most popular sizes and types are available off the shelf but specialized items are manufactured to the requirements of the customer who include major international construction companies among others.
Steel rolling Mills also produces plough beams for its sister company Saimmco.

The company has over a period of time invested in hi-tech equipment to produce high quality steel products needed for prestigious construction purposes including, a fully-fledged physio-chemical and metallurgical laboratory equipped with some of the latest measuring and testing facilities such as Stroihlein Apparatus with the highest precision and a universal testing machine capacity 100 tonnes in place to ensure product quality. Highly trained personnel in the field of steel manufacture man the laboratory. It is the only laboratory in the country capable of doing chemical and tensile testing to satisfaction.
Bearing in mind the importance of the chemistry of steel in its casting, the company is in the process of acquiring a fully computerized spectrometer to reinforce the chemical laboratory. This will provide a high range of analysis where at least 28 elements in steel can be determined in the shortest time. This will also give us opportunity to produce special alloy steels for automobile industry in future.

Steel Rolling mills Ltd has established and developed selling outlets in all major towns across the country to be able to meet the market demand in the most effective way. Our customer base includes international and locally reputed construction companies, government organizations, and institutions, appointed distributors and agents as well as exports to neighboring countries such as Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, DRC, Southern Sudan, and Tanzania.
